The Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) is located in St. Petersburg, Russia. The university is considered to be one of the top research facilities in Russian Federation and is leading educational facility. The Higher School of Biotechnology and School Technology, focuses on organization, development and maintenance of biotechnological related processes in compliance with national and international legislation. In addition, numbers of research groups have actively been involved in development and quality control of raw materials as well as semi-finished products for the food industry. On the other hand, the principal competence of one of the research group is development of value-added products form the agricultural and industrial waste, particularly sorbents for the wastewater treatment. In addition, together with Yuri Gagarin State Technical University of Saratov (SSTU), Engels Technological Institute scientists from interdisciplinary fields are working on implementation of technologies for the cultivation and application of aquatic biomass, for instance duckweed, cryptocoryne, limnofila and cryptocoryne for the industrial waste water treatment from such heavy metals, oil and its derivatives.
